Today, compassion is needed more than ever. The lack of social interaction training within our current digital and success-driven world has left a gap in the skills of relationship building and empathy. Results of this gap have increased issues of bullying, racism, prejudice and compromised business reputations, effective customer service, effective caregiving and volunteerism.

What is Empathy?

Understanding “what empathy is” is the first step. Our goal is to not only share techniques to practice empathy but also how to react and act effectively for the benefit of your customer, client, student, patient, peer, employee or friend. Learning how to practice and utilize empathy allows us to share effective compassion with others while also providing self-actualization, stress management and personal success.

Our Goals

The Museum created in Marianne’s honor has asked “how can we be of service to our community?” and how can we carry on the legacy of Marianne and her religious sisters?

The Sisters of St. Francis “live” compassionate empathy. While Saint Marianne and her sisters dedicated their lives in service to others, we can learn from their example how to practice effective empathy and incorporate it into our daily lives. Our goal is to teach and spread the practice of empathy and challenge our community to be a kinder and gentler place to live, work and grow.

Kristin Barrett-Anderson, Director of the Saint Marianne Cope Shrine & Museum presented “Empathy in Action” to a group of Central New York non-profit executives on Tuesday, February 11th. The program is an interactive presentation designed to improve our daily lives and those we provide care for. Kristin is setting up more Empathy presentations for local organizations.

As devoted stewards of Saint Marianne Cope's life and legacy our mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit, interpret and share Saint Marianne's inspiring story as a Sister of St. Francis.

Spreading Joy with Sister Jean: Lent

Empathy in action

“Let us make best use of the fleeting moments. They will not return."Mother Marianne 1905

Mother Marianne and the Sisters of St. Francis are among the notable women that Spectrum News Central New York is celebrating during Women's History month by highlighting influential community leaders past and present. Reporter Brad Vivacqua was onsite at the Shrine and Museum in Syracuse on Monday March 9, where he talked with Director Kristin Barrett-Anderson about the many notable contributions Mother and the Sisters of St. Francis made and that the sisters continue to make. Saint Marianne will be featured throughout the month in the station’s Women in History series. Brad was impressed and inspired by everything that he learned about Saint Marianne, and he urged viewers to visit the shrine and museum to experience all that it has to offer. View the video

The Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities have given the staff at the Saint Marianne Cope Shrine & Museum Gift Shop the privilege of continuing Saint Marianne's legacy by spreading the word about her extraordinary life. Much of our unique merchandise was created by those Sisters who felt compelled to share the story of one of their own, Saint Marianne Cope. With our merchandise we have attempted to convey a dignified, accurate and inspiring message about Mother Marianne.

We invite you to browse through our Saint Marianne Cope official merchandise and hope that you are also inspired by her life story. All proceeds from your purchase will go to the Saint Marianne Cope Shrine & Museum and will help us, as devoted stewards of Saint Marianne Cope's life and legacy, share her life's story with others.
