Saint Marianne's Feast and Birthday is on January 23

Novena to Saint Marianne  with Sister Jean

Day 1

All glory and praise be to you, Lord God almighty!

St. Marianne led a group of sister/nurses to the Hawaiian Islands to care for the poor suffering souls afflicted with Hansen’s disease (leprosy). In imitation of St. Marianne’s self-sacrificing spirit, I ask for the grace to be more truly concerned with the welfare of others.

Through the intercession of St. Marianne, I ask that the petition of this novena be granted in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
St. Marianne, intercede for us

Day 2

We give praise and glorify you, Lord, God almighty for the life of  St. Marianne.

Responding to your call, St. Marianne was instrumental in founding schools for immigrants and hospitals to care for your people. In imitation of St. Marianne, I pray for the grace to increase my love for my neighbor.

Through the intercession of St. Marianne, I ask that the petition of this novena be granted in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
St. Marianne, intercede for us

Day 3

O God, your Son said, “What you did for the least of my people you did for me.”

St. Marianne established a home for women and young girls in Hawaii afflicted with Hansen’s disease. She taught them to plant, and how to sew, helping them to make their lives more meaningful. Giver of life, we ask you in your goodness to bestow on us your grace to live a life of sacrifice as did your servant, St. Marianne.

Through the intercession of St. Marianne, I ask that the petition of this novena be granted in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
St. Marianne, intercede for us

Day 4

My Lord and my God; my God and my All.

St. Marianne said, “I do not think of reward. I am working for God and do so cheerfully.” St. Marianne was truly a servant of servants living in exile for more than 30 years with those to whom she ministered in Kalaupapa. Help me to follow her example by not complaining of what little is asked of me.

Through the intercession of St. Marianne, I ask that the petition of this novena be granted in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
St. Marianne, intercede for us

Day 5

Lord, our God, you said, “For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me. I was ill and you comforted me. I assure you, as often as you did it for one of my least brethren, you did it for me.”

St. Marianne heard these words and with deep compassion and charity for the suffering, she worked tirelessly serving those in need. May I too, serve others with compassion and charity.

Through the intercession of St. Marianne, I ask that the petition of this novena be granted in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
St. Marianne, intercede for us

Day 6

Glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

St. Marianne gave hospitality to Father Damien when his illness made him an unwelcome visitor to church and government leaders in Honolulu, Hawaii. St. Marianne responded to the pleas for help and said, “We will cheerfully accept the work.” She and the sisters accepted the care of the exiled women and girls, while continuing the work of Father Damien on the peninsula on the island of Molokai. May I accept cheerfully the work that is mine to do.

Through the intercession of St. Marianne, I ask that the petition of this novena be granted in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
St. Marianne, intercede for us

Day 7

My Lord and my God; my God and my All.

You honored St. Marianne as being blessed among your people. Help us to work diligently and prayerfully to be signs of your living presence. May we respond to the fullness of life to which we are called.

Through the intercession of St. Marianne, I ask that the petition of this novena be granted in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
St. Marianne, intercede for us

Day 8

Glory to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ.

You called your servant, St. Marianne, to her heavenly reward. Awaken in us the ways that we can help those who are suffering and teach us to be grateful for having the opportunity to serve others. May all who die this day experience the fullness of life, and may we, too, one day share that life together with St. Marianne.

Through the intercession of St. Marianne, I ask that the petition of this novena be granted in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
St. Marianne, intercede for us

Day 9

Glory to you, Source of all being, Eternal Word and Holy Spirit.

The sick and the abandoned were in St. Marianne’s heart and mind. Having no distinction as to a person’s nationality, religion or color, she served those at Kalaupapa and made their lives more hopeful (hope filled) during their last years. She made it a time of peace and contentment for them. Teach us how to serve the outcasts of society and how to respect and accept their gifts.

Through the intercession of St. Marianne, I ask that the petition of this novena be granted in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
St. Marianne, intercede for us
